Entry No.01 Eric
'98 Honda NSR500 / Gresin / Alex Barros

The NSR 500 team Gresini 1998 was a limited release of T2M, the French dealer of Tamiya. 1500 decal sheets were printed. It was available in France only.

I have to found detail picture of this bike. All my magazines were inspected

I've baught the Platz model photoetched accessoiries. Look nice

I have now to learn Japanese to translate the Platz instructions (work in progress...)

All the body parts have been sandpapered and primered with white Tamiya's "Surface Primer".
Then the part have been painted overall with glossy white paint
The decals are very difficult to apply.
I've so decided to paint the body sheme.
I've used Tamiya Spraycan TS47 "chrome yellow" for the yellow areas
Before appliying the green paint, I've primerd the bodys with X32 "titanium silver" in order to have the same background color under the matallic green
I've used Tamiya's TS20 "metallic green" spray and Tamiya masking tape to protect the white and yellow areas.

I've choose with my friend Gilles the correct shade of metallic blue.
He has built the Gresini 98 bike so he was very hepfull on the choice.
The blue choosen come from a automotive shop.

I had some troubles when I painted the white area in the front of the body : the green paint leaves with the Tamiya tape I used for masking
So I decided to remove all the paint with brake fluid and to start again a new painting session on the body.
I didn't take pictures of the new paint because it's exactly the same as above except that the white color in the front was painted first.

Because the decals are too much difficult to apply, I've print another decal sheet for the white "comet and the gold color in the border line. Her's the drawing with Corel Draw of the comet.
and the drawing of the complete decal sheet.
You can see (I hope) the white prints
Here is the gold color printed by the OKI DP5000. I don't know if this color was such shinning in the real bike but it looks wonderfull.
All the decals have been applied. The white comets are a little big too big. Nobody's perfect.
In the same time, I've started the engine by gluing the photoetched partitions in the air intakes.

the body parts have been clear cotted with Sikkens' Autoclear clearcoat.
It's a polyurethane paint use for real cars.
the exhaust pipe have been carefully sandpapered.
The joints have been rebuilt.
the pipes have been painted with Alclad II chrome paint after being primered with a glossy black enamel paint.
Clear orange and orange from Tamiya and Testor's exhaust paint have been used to make the exhausts older.

The chains comes from the Plats photoetched parts.
It's quite an hard job.
the interior of the body have been close with white cardboard

the gold color come from a Tamiya spray TS21, very nice color
the chain have been painted with metal gun and gold color.

The dead line (February 15th) is coming soon so I decided to stop detailing the model and built it as quick as possible
The bike is built straight out from the box, I will start the bike for the ModelerGP 2005 soon to have enough time...
